The invention relates to a roll, and will find a particular application in the flat-product manufacturing industry, such as in the iron and steel industry.
In this industry or in the field of paper mill, it is known rolls or cylinders performing a function of spinning, transport, guiding, coating. These rollers are complex and technical parts because they must have no weakness during the operating phases of a production line. These rollers must in particular withstand intense physical stresses and, very often, corrosive environmental conditions or even high temperatures.
The roller, according to the invention, will find a particular application, but not limited to, in these extreme conditions, especially corrosive or high temperatures.
These rollers comprise a metal core and an elastomeric coating adapted to the service conditions. In the case of extreme applications, manufacturers use a coating solution of rollers composed of the elastomeric coating and an undercoat between the elastomer and the metal. Today, the most widespread solution industrially is an ebonite-type underlayer to protect the metal core against chemical attack and mechanical stresses encountered during the use of rollers.
Ebonite is the main underlayment product because its implementation is carried out on the same tools and thanks to the same process as those allowing the removal of the elastomer coating. Ebonite is bonded to the iron using a chemical bond obtained by the removal of a conventional adhesion agent.
All cylinder renovation operations require a systematic removal of the outer coating and the underlayment. Both are non-recoverable. This operation requires attacking the iron of the roll table. There is therefore a decrease in the thickness of the table as and when the relines, until make it fragile and unusable. If it has a chemical attack under the underlayer, the cylinder is completely unrecoverable.
It is not possible to check the integrity of the ebonite before commissioning. Ebonite is by its nature sensitive to shocks, and very localized constraints, favoring the appearance of microcracks that are at the origin of chemical attacks on iron.
In the case of cylinders subjected to very high pressures, such as those of spinning in the iron and steel industry, in many cases a separation occurs between the elastomer coating and the underlayer, or between -layer and iron.
The set starts to turn around the metal core and causes the line to stop. The costs of maintenance operations are therefore very heavy because of the relatively short life of the cylinders.
The object of the present invention is to provide a cylinder which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the known ebonite technology in that it greatly increases the mechanical strength of the evacuation, and limits or even eliminates the risk of chemical attack.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method of manufacturing such a roll.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method for the relining and / or repair of such a roller for repairing cylinders whose iron is chemically etched, or allowing multiple relining without weakening the metal core .
Other goals and advantages will become apparent from the following description, which is given for information only and is not intended to limit it.
The invention firstly relates to a roll, consisting of a metal core, with a coating of elastomeric material and a synthetic interface layer between the metal core and the elastomeric material.
According to the invention, the interface layer of synthetic material is a complex formed at least from the resin and glass fibers.
The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing rolls composed of a metal core and a coating of elastomeric material and a synthetic interface layer between the metal core and the elastomeric material.
According to the process according to the invention, at least the parts of the core to be coated are previously coated with a complex formed at least from the resin and the glass fiber.
The invention will also relate to a method for relining and / or repairing a roller according to the invention in which the elastomer coating is mechanically removed until the layer of the resin / fiberglass complex is superficially etched and coated. of the same complex the layer started before coating the roll with an elastomeric material.
The invention will be better understood on reading the following description accompanied by the single figure in the appendix illustrating a partial view of a roller in a section passing through the longitudinal axis of said roller.
The invention relates to a roll composed of a metal core 2, with a coating 3 of elastomeric material and an interface layer 4 of synthetic material between the metal core 2 and the elastomeric material.
According to the invention, the interface layer 4 of synthetic material is a complex formed at least from the resin and glass fibers. The resin is of the synthetic epoxy type chosen for its properties of good chemical resistance to corrosion as well as for its properties of good stability at high temperature.
The resin / fiberglass complex is applied directly to the bare metal, or even to the flanges 5 and the flares 6, and then polymerizes and adheres chemically and mechanically to said metal core 2.
The elastomeric coating is placed directly on the resin / glass fiber complex previously prepared by machining, by the removal of an adhesion agent, according to the conventional method of producing the elastomer rolls.
Advantageously, a cylinder attacked by corrosion can be repaired using the same resin. The interface layer is thus repairable and rechargeable without machining the iron. It can thus support several relines. Thus, the initial diameter of the metal core 2 is conserved. The invention also relates to a process for manufacturing rolls composed of a metal core 2 and a coating 3 made of elastomeric material and an interface layer 4 made of synthetic material between the metal core 2 and the elastomeric material.
According to the process according to the invention, at least the parts of the metal core to be coated are previously coated with a complex formed at least from the resin and the glass fiber. Optionally, the resin / fiberglass complex layer may also extend over all or part of the peripheral portions (flanges 5, flares 6) not coated with the elastomeric material.
The adhesion of the resin / fiberglass complex to the surface of the metal core is obtained by the polymerization of the resin, the adhesion of the elastomer coating to the surface of the resin / fiberglass complex obtained by prior removal of the resin. an adhesion agent.
We describe in more detail an embodiment of such a cylinder.
First of all, in the case of a new cylinder, after a prior blasting and degreasing operation, the resin / fiberglass complex is applied by depositing successive layers of a resin-coated glass pylon using a suitable roll. The resin polymerizes at room temperature. The resin / fiberglass complex is then machined and rounded. A specific adhesion agent to the coating is deposited. The final elastomeric coating is applied according to the conventional technique of calendering an elastomeric sheet, or by extrusion machine to be filled. The cylinder is then cooked in a steam autoclave. Finishing is ensured by reworking according to the destination of the cylinder.
In the case of refurbishment of the used coating, a simple mechanical stripping of the coating is performed until touching the resin / fiberglass complex. The conventional operations of relining are then performed.
Also, the invention also relates to a method for relining and / or repairing a roller according to the invention in which the elastomer coating is mechanically removed to superficially start the layer of the resin / fiberglass complex and the coated layer is coated with the same complex before being coated with an elastomeric material. This method thus makes it possible to repair any cracks in the resin / fiberglass complex layer by loading them with said resin.
The roller according to the invention will find a particular application in the iron and steel industry, in the chemically aggressive medium such as pickling bath and / or electro-galvanizing.
